Mike Vanderjagt may be retired from football, but the Oakville native isn’t done with the game just yet.

The former NFL and CFL kicker is now passing on what he learned about the game to young high school students in Western New York.

Vanderjagt, who spent nine seasons in the NFL with the Indianapolis Colts and Dallas Cowboys, is spending time at Medina High school practices helping head coach Mike Valley and guiding the Mustangs special teams and quarterbacks.

The former NFL star lives in the area and actually walked into the school offering to help out the Medina football program.

He had previously helped coach his son Jay, who is now a quarterback with NCAA Division II University of Findlay in Ohio.

The graduate of White Oaks Secondary School played 15 seasons of pro football.

Vanderjagt, who played eight seasons with the Colts, retired as the NFL’s most accurate field goal kicker and still ranks in the top 10. In 2003, he was the league’s first kicker to go an entire season without missing an extra point or field goal.

The 52-year-old also played three seasons with the Toronto Argonauts and one with the Saskatchewan Roughriders, winning two Grey Cups.
