Oakville’s Rourke signs rookie CFL contract with BC Lions

The British Columbia Lions have signed Oakville’s Nathan Rourke to a three-year entry-level contract.

The 22-year-old, who attended Holy Trinity Catholic Secondary School in Oakville before transferring to Edgewood Academy in Elmore, Alabama for his senior season, is expected to compete for the for Lions’ No. 2 quarterback role behind starter Mike Reilly.

A second-round pick (15th overall) of the Lions in the 2020 CFL Draft, Rourke was passed over in the 2020 NFL Draft. He worked out with the New York Giants at the NFL team’s mini-camp last week.

After spending one season at Fort Scott Community College in Kansas, he transferred to Ohio University where he would play three seasons (2017-19) with the Bobcats and lead them to three consecutive bowl victories (2017 Bahamas Bowl, 2018 Frisco Bowl, 2020 Famous Idaho Potato Bowl).

At Ohio, Rourke threw for 7,313 passing yards and 60 touchdowns and was intercepted 20 times. He would also rush for 2,552 yards and 48 touchdowns.
