Oakville’s work on updating and improving its online service isn’t going unnoticed.

The town has been awarded a 2023 Granicus Digital Government Award for operational excellence.

The digital awards are presented annually to recognize excellence in the public sector across North America and government organizations that embrace modern technologies to drive awareness of community programs, improve citizen experiences, transform outdated processes, and inspire civic action.

Oakville was named a recipient of the award in recognition of its work modernizing its sign permit application process and bringing the service online to make it easier and more accessible for the community.

The time it takes to review and approve the sign permits has reduced significantly, in some instances to within minutes.

“The town is honoured to receive recognition for the work we’re doing to implement new technologies and explore innovative ways to connect our community,” said Oakville Mayor Rob Burton.

“Council and I are proud of the work staff are doing to digitally transform and expand the town’s online services, making it easier for the community to access programs and services.”

Oakville’s online permitting was recognized in the Operational Excellence category, which is given to an organization for their efforts to increase efficiency, save costs, retain employees, and support a modern workforce.

Oakville’s online permitting services were added in 2022 and allow the community to apply for a sign permit at anytime rather than being limited to the town’s operating hours.

The town’s Municipal Enforcement Services receive about 600 permits each year.

Oakville and other award recipients will be featured at the Granicus’ Digital Transformation Summit next Wednesday (Oct. 25).
