Oakville politician pleads guilty to fraud 

An Oakville politician has received a conditional discharge and 12 months probation after pleading guilty to fraud.

Court records show that Nancy Guzzo, a former trustee on the Halton Catholic District School Board (HCDSB), pleaded guilty recently to one count of fraud under $5,000.

In 2021 Guzzo was arrested by police in Hamilton and faced a dozen fraud charges related to her former job as an administrator with a large healthcare union called LIUNA, a North American-wide association with some 500,000 members, including 80,000 in Canada. All but one of the charges were eventually withdrawn by the court.

First elected in 2018 as one of three Oakville trustees on the HCDSB, Guzzo did not run for re-election last fall.

Guzzo is also a founder of Food4Kids, a non-profit organization that provides packages of healthy food for kids aged 4-13 with limited or no access to food each weekend. The food packages are assembled by volunteers and delivered to schools each Friday to ensure children have nourishment over the weekend.
