The Town of Oakville is looking to better understand how the community uses its parks, recreation and culture facilities and libraries and they want local residents to help out.

Oakville is developing a Parks, Recreation, and Library Facilities Master Plan to guide the current and future direction of these spaces and is inviting residents to provide their input.

The town will be gathering demographic date and growth forecasts, participation and usage levels over the next few months from the local community to help shape its master plan.

An online survey opened Monday (April 17) will be followed by public open house opportunities in May.

“Our parks, sports fields, community centres, and libraries are places where we belong, gather, and connect with each other. They are a big part of what make Oakville a thriving community,” said Oakville Mayor Rob Burton. “As the town grows, these spaces need to continue to evolve to meet the needs and wants of our community.

“The Parks, Recreation, and Library Facilities Master Plan will guide how we provide the community facilities that allow us to be part of the community and feel connected with one another. It is important that Council and staff hear from the community on what matters to them and their families!”

The online survey, which takes about 15 minutes to complete, is open until May 31, 2023. Residents will be able to share what programs and services are important to them and what they think the Town should provide in the future  when it comes to community parks, recreation and culture facilities and libraries.

The survey will also ask residents to share how the COVID-19 pandemic has impacted how often and the way they participate in recreation and culture and library programs and services.
