Oakville golfers share bronze medal win at Canadian Junior Girls Championship

Two Oakville golfers hit the podium at the Canadian Junior Girls Championship held Thursday (July 27) at the Hampton Golf and Country Club in Hampton, New Brunswick.
Lindsay McGrath and Swetha Sathish both finished at seven-over to share the bronze medal with Toronto’s Michelle P. Ding, each winning $900.
Eileen Park of Red Deer, Ab. won the event with a final round 4-under 67 on Thursday to finish ahead of Luna Lu of Burnaby, B.C., who finished second with a 4-over 288 overall for the tournament.
The 14-year-old Park carded rounds of 74, 71, 69 and 67 for a total score of 3-under 281, en route to the national title and a $1,200 purse.
Both McGrath, 16, and Sathish, 15, also placed third in the juvenile event, which ran concurrently for girls aged 16 and under. Park and Lu finished first and second respectively.
Both Oakville golfers got stronger as the event went on. McGrath followed an opening round 76 with a 73, 73, and sparkling 69 to finish with a 291 total in the four-round tournament.
Sathish opened her tournament with a 74, before firing rounds of 73, 72 and 72 to finish with a 291 total.
Oakville’s Sarah Yank finished tied for eighth with a 10 over score of 294 (74, 75, 74, and 71).
