Oakville duo named to Emerging Musician Program class of 2021

YASSiN and Sean Terrio of Oakville are among the five recipients named Thursday to the ninth annual Canada’s Walk of Fame RBC Emerging Musician Program.
The second-place winners and class of 2021 members will be able to take part in the sought-after program that supports aspiring Canadian musical artists.
Chosen by a selection committee of music industry experts, the Oakville duo and the other the recipients will share prizes and the program benefits valued at more than $100,000.
This year’s Grand Prize winner is Montreal-based singer-songwriter Angel Baribeau, whose messages and representation within their debut EP, For Those I Love(d), continue to resonate with 200,000+ streams across various platforms.
Baribeau will receive a cash prize of $20,000, performance opportunities at Canada’s Walk of Fame events, and private studio recording time at the renowned Metalworks Studios. YASSiN and Terrio will receive a cash prize of $6,000 for their second-place finish.
The three finalists, Boogey the Beat of Winnipeg, MB, GRAE of Toronto and Madison Olds of Vancouver, BC, will receive cash prizes of $4,000 each.
All winners will receive virtual mentorship with Canada’s Walk of Fame Inductee Sarah McLachlan, showcase opportunities at Festival du Voyageur and Canadian Music Week and more.
“It is exciting to be able to support the next generation of musicians and songwriters and to amplify voices that have been underrepresented in the music industry,” said Jeffrey Latimer, CEO, Canada’s Walk of Fame.
“With so many extraordinary Canadian artists inducted into Canada’s Walk of Fame over the past two decades, we have the opportunity to truly inspire the next generation of musicians.”
YASSiN and Terrio have been recording and performing together since 2019. The genre-crossing duo have released five singles, with fans in Canada, the United States, South America and the UK.
The Oakville artist made the Top 100 list this year for the CBC Search Light Contest and had their single “Take My Time” played on radio stations across Canada.
The duo’s music and videos have accumulate millions of live views and streams. They plan to release an EP in the near future.
