Nuisance bylaw considered in Milton

Most people strive to be a good neighbour, but even in Milton sometimes the people we live close to can be a bother.
So the Town of Milton is investigating whether a nuisance bylaw, that aims to improve the quality of life in local neighbourhoods, is needed.
“The Municipal Act, permits the Town to prohibit and regulate certain public nuisances respecting the economic, social and environmental well-being of the community, and the health, safety and the protection of persons and property,” said a Town spokesperson.
Milton’s by-law will aim to minimize neighbourhood disturbances and regulate or prohibit activities that may reasonably prevent residents from enjoying their properties.
“Public input is valued so the by-law addresses issues of concern in our community, sets fines appropriately, and effectively preserves the quality of life in the Town of Milton.”
The Nuisance By-law survey explores questions such as:
- What do you consider a public nuisance?
- Have you reported any nuisance incidents to the Town of Milton?
- The purpose of fines is to deter further violations. What do you believe should be the appropriate range of fines to deter nuisances in the town?
The results of the survey will be used to inform an updated by-law for Council’s review and approval in March. If approved, the by-law is expected to be enacted this spring 2024.
To provide input, visit Let’s Talk Milton to complete the survey before Feb. 9
