‘No ice cream for you’ after ice cream truck pulled over in Oakville

A local ice cream truck is getting a long cooling off period thanks to the keen eye of Halton Regional Police.

Cst. Marc Taraso observed an ice cream truck going by near Dundas St. and Tremaine Rd. in Oakville on Monday (July 3) and said he noticed the driver wasn’t wearing a seat belt.

After pulling the driver over, he discovered a whole lot of other issues that added up to one less ice cream truck offering up the cold, refreshing treat on these hot summer days.

“Upon (the) stop, observe seatbelt removed,” said Cst. Taraso on Twitter. “Inspection reveals truck weighs 5,500 kg. “NO CVOR (Commercial Vehicle Operator’s Registration), no pre trip (inspection), no inspection schedule, expired insurance card, overweight on RGW (Registered Gross Weight).”

Cst. Taraso had the plates removed and the ice cream truck towed. The driver/company has been charged, he said.

The response on social media was about what you expect when taking an ice cream truck off the road in the middle of one of the hottest days of the summer so far.

Many kidded with the officer, making it clear the move wasn’t an overly popular one.

“No ice cream for you.” responded Glen Baxby to the tweet.

“Not the ice cream man. I’m so disappointed,” tweeted Ann G.

Others said they were so close, they could taste it.

“Man, he was just around the corner from me!,” tweeted Renee Louden.

Others had to go without, but understood.

“So that’s why there was no ice cream truck yesterday (laughing out loud),” tweeted Randy Narine. “Great job, brother!”

Most appreciated the officer looking out on the road for them.
