New refresh for park playground in Oakville

The playground at Coronation Park is getting a whole new look.
The Town of Oakville is looking to replace the old equipment at the popular children’s play area on Lake Ontario’s shores.
Considered one of the town’s premiere, destination parks, it hosts numerous annual special events and attracts visitors from all over the Halton Region and from the Greater Toronto Area.
Coronation features a public washroom facility, concession stand, splash pad, bandshell, outdoor volleyball courts, multiple picnic areas, and parking areas.
Installation of the new equipment and remake of the playground is expected to be completed sometime in May or June of 2025.
The current children’s playground features two distinct areas:
- A smaller ‘junior’ playground area, designed for children aged 2-5 years, is about 350 square metres and is on the west side of the walkway. This junior play area is approximately 25 years in age and is due for replacement; and
- A larger ‘senior’ area, designed for children aged 5-12 years, is about 900 square metres on the east side of the walkway and immediately north of the washroom/concession building, and nearby splash pad. The senior play area is approximately 21 years old and is also due for replacement.
Oakville has launched a survey to receive public input on what should be done with the playground replacement. The survey will be open to the public until October 18, 2024.
Next up for the project, the town will ask for design proposals from playground supplies sometime later this month and into November.
The town will then award the project to a playground supplier and refine the design based on public input in November/December 2024.
Town officials will then present the preferred playground design to the public for final comment in January/February 2025, before installing the new equipment over the next two months.
Those interested in providing feedback to the town on the playground project are asked to complete the online survey no later than 5 p.m. on October 18, 2024.

Those with additional questions can email them to [email protected], placing Coronation Park Playground in the subject line.
“After reviewing the completed survey responses, we will be including a summary of preferred playground components to playground suppliers,” said the Town of Oakville. “This information will be valuable in helping them prepare their designs, and for town staff in making a recommendation of a preferred supplier.”
