Thanks in large part to the recent pandemic, the number of businesses that moved to Oakville and the jobs created were down this past year.
The pandemic’s impact on new investment activity was provided to Council by Town Staff at a recent meeting.
The update on economic activity, competitive positioning, and departmental initiatives in support of Economic Development Strategy goals from the 2022 Economic Development Annual Report found lower than average new employment creation in Oakville.
New businesses making Oakville home created over 300 new jobs last year. Most new company arrivals moved operations into existing industrial space with a concentration of activity in ward 6 employment areas.
Companies welcomed to the community include:
- Agilisium – A software consultant (ward 6)
- Blyth Brewing and Distilling Beverage – A beverage manufacturing company office operations (ward 6)
- Canada Sleep and Décor Ltd. – A home textile goods (ward 6)
- Candybox Marketing – A digital marketing agency (ward 6)
- Clover Co. – A co-working and studio space (ward 2)
- Eagle Partners Financial Solutions – A financial planning and wealth management firm (ward 3)
- Groupe 3737 – A not-for-profit supporting women entrepreneurs
- Hilti Canada Corporation – A construction industry manufacturer and supplier (ward 6)
- Meditex Global Ltd. – A medical equipment and supplies (ward 6)
- Wolseley Canada Inc. – A distributor of plumbing, HVAC, waterworks and industrial products (ward 6)
Many of the new companies who moved to Oakville are market leaders in the construction industry supply chain.
Hilti Canada Corporation, a construction industry manufacturer and supplier located on 2201 Bristol Cir. Suite, brought 100 new jobs to town in moving their head office from Mississauga.
Hilti employs 30,000 people in over 120 countries. The Canadian market organization includes more than 600 team members from coast to coast.
Wolseley Canada, a major construction industry wholesale distributor, opened a new 21,000 sq.ft. location in Oakville on Winston Park Drive.
In the professional services sector, Candybox Marketing moved to the community in November. The award-winning digital marketing agency is celebrated as one of Canada’s best workplaces and is ranked among its fastest-growing companies.
Oakville continues to be a draw for new investment in the co-working market. Clover Co. opened a new location on Speers Rd. designed to provide collaborative co-working space for entrepreneurs and content creators.
