Drivers will soon have a new, efficient route that will take them over Highway 401.

The long-anticipated bridge, which has been under construction for several years, will open next week in Milton at a realigned Tremaine Road.

It is expected that the new bridge will help with traffic between Steeles Avenue and Campbellville Road and will start off with two lanes before turning into four lanes after further construction.

The project is meant to improve transportation networks in the area to accommodate both future population and employment growth by which is expected in Milton with increased housing and economic development.

Eventually, the route will also create a new interchange at the 401 that will create direct access to the highway. It is expected to open late in 2026.

Aside from better access to the highway, the new interchange is also expected to reduce travel times for both commuter and commercial vehicles and improve emergency response access.

The old Tremaine Road bridge nearby will be torn down as part of the ongoing work.

All of this is expected to start on July 7 when the old bridge closes down and traffic will be redirected to the new overpass.

The demolition will take place overnight on July 12 and 13, which will see Highway 401 closed from 9 p.m. to 9 a.m. between Regional Road 25 and Guelph Line with a detour along Campbellville Road.
