An art exhibition celebrating Black history and the profound impact of emancipation is being displayed in Halton Hills.

The seventh annual Emancipation Art Exhibition is at the Helson Gallery and Upper Sisnett Lobby of the Cultural Centre until Sept. 15.

This year’s juried exhibition is being presented in partnership with the Halton Black History Awareness Society and continues the tradition of showcasing powerful artworks that explore and celebrate Black history and emancipation.

Artists submitted their work through an open call that has led to a diverse and inspiring collection showcasing various facets of the Black experience.

“We are thrilled to host this important exhibition once again,” said Halton Hills Mayor Ann Lawlor.

“It’s an opportunity for visitors to commemorate Emancipation Day and to reflect on the continuing journey towards justice and equity.”

Other events at the Cultural Centre, include the Palette & Pencil Plus Art Guild’s member show in the lower Sisnett Lobby on display until Sept. 29.

This local art collective, affiliated with the Credit Valley Artisans in Georgetown, welcomes artists of all abilities. Members specialize in a wide range of artistic forms and materials.

The Helson Gallery is located at 9 Church St., Halton Hills.
