UPDATE: The collision has been cleared and all lanes are now open.

A five-vehicle crash sent one person to hospital in serious condition and left multiple lanes on a major Oakville highway closed late Tuesday afternoon.

Burlington OPP and the Oakville Fire Department are on the scene of the multi-vehicle incident that occurred around 4:30 p.m. on the eastbound QEW just before Third Line.

A commuter at the scene told INhalton.com that a box truck was involved in the crash and that multiple people were being attended to by emergency crews on the scene.

“Cleanup now underway,” Burlington OPP said in a post to social media. “Truck needs to have contents emptied prior to being uprighted.”

The three left eastbound lanes on the QEW are closed while the HOV lane remains open.

Burlington OPP is estimating that all lanes should be open by 6:30 p.m.

Police are asking commuters heading home early Tuesday evening on the eastbound QEW to seek an alternate route.
