Much to love about trees next month in Burlington

Learn how to better love your trees at three upcoming events in Burlington.

Presented by BurlingtonGreen, a grassroots agency that advocates on behalf of the environment, the events are meant to be fun and put you a little more in touch with Mother Nature.

On Wednesday, Sept. 20 at 7 p.m. the webinar  “Ask an Arborist” will feature Kyle McLoughlin, Master Arborist and Supervisor of Forest Planning and Health at the City of Burlington, who will talk about trees and then answer your questions.

McLoughlin will talk about ways to avoid poor tree planning which can cost you money and create poor outcomes. He will also discuss tree diseases and how to avoid construction damage.

After his discussion, he will be available to answer tree-related questions.

All attendees will be entered into a draw for a chance to win a tree.

Next up is a “Tree Loving Care” workshop that will take place on Saturday, September 23 at 9 a.m. at Millcroft Park.

Along with the City of Burlington Forestry Department, this year’s TLC (Tree Loving Care)event will bring community members together to carry out some hands-on stewardship activities at a former tree planting location at the park. Participants can take part in doing a tree inventory, learn how to properly plant a tree, and create and scatter some native seed balls.

Last but not least, BurlingtonGreen begins its annual tree photo contest on Sept. 17

Entrants are encouraged to celebrate local trees and showcase their beauty through photos.

The winner will receive a $50 gift card to Connon Nurseries.

How it works:

1. Take a photo of your favourite tree located in Burlington.
2. Write a short blurb about your photo and be sure to include where your photo was taken.
3. Send your picture and blurb to us at [email protected] by midnight, October 10th
   (use your last name for your photo file title and in the subject line of your submission)

Please note that one tree photo per person may be submitted.

After all submissions have been received, the photos will be posted here on the BurlingtonGreen website and the community voting will begin.
