A new, temporary location for a Milton mosque has been approved.

At a recent council meeting, an application from the Muslim Association of Milton for a temporary zoning by-law amendment to allow a place of worship at 1801 Thompson Road, south of Britannia Road, was unanimously approved.

The proposed use, which will last for three years, includes a prayer hall, conference room, and other facilities within an existing building.

The site will maintain its current services, including septic and well water, and parking would be expanded to accommodate 58 spaces.

Long term, the land is scheduled for future development but according to a staff report, a place of worship is an approved use of the lot and no Official Plan amendment is needed.

The report outlines the review process and the next steps in addressing concerns related to parking, stormwater management, and compliance with local and provincial policies.
