Mortgage ‘scam’ costs senior home, Oakville, Hamilton, Brampton men facing charges

A 29-year-old Oakville man is one of four people that has been charged in connection with a mortgage fraud scam that resulted in a Brantford senior losing her home.

A joint investigation between Waterloo and Brantford police alleges that between 2021 and 2022 four “predatory mortgages” ultimately led to mortgage enforcement of the home in January 2024.

The four people are accused of defrauding the senior of approximately $374,000.

A 29-year-old Oakville man, a 60-year-old female from Toronto, and 34-year-old male from Hamilton have been arrested and are each facing the following charges:

  • One count of fraud over $5,000
  • Possession property obtained by crime over $5,000 contrary to the Criminal Code

A 39-year-old Brampton man is charged with one count of swearing purported affidavit, contrary to the Criminal Code.
