Mississauga man facing life in prison for killing two in Georgetown house explosion

A man has been sentenced to life imprisonment after pleading guilty to intentionally setting fire to a Georgetown house and killing two people. 

Today (Dec. 4), Halton police announced that Mississauga man Harrison Brown was sentenced to life in prison in connection with the murders of Krystyna, 56, and Andrzej Rerak, 59, who were found dead in their home in February 2021. \

On Feb. 17, 2021, first responders were called to a home explosion in a residence on Hidden Lake Trail. While attempting to contain the fire, investigators discovered the victims’ bodies.

On March 26, Brown, then aged 27, was charged with two counts of first-degree murder and arson. Police say the investigation determined that the fire was intentionally set. 

Police say Brown and one of the deceased were known to each other and had a business relationship.

Brown was sentenced to life in prison with no eligibility for parole for 25 years by Justice C. Conlan in the Ontario Superior Court of Justice in Milton on Dec. 1. 

“Although the tragic loss of Krystyna and Andrzej Rerak will continue to be felt by their family and throughout our community, the Halton Regional Police Service hopes this outcome will bring some measure of healing,” police said in a statement.
