Milton’s MPP shockingly resigns, eyeing run at federal seat

Milton’s MPP Parm Gill has decided to resign from Doug Ford’s cabinet to take another run at a federal seat in Ottawa.

Gill announced his decision on a post on X (formerly Twitter) in the early evening on Thursday, Jan. 25.

“In recent months, many members of our community have reached out urging me to join Pierre Poilievre’s team and to continue to deliver for Milton but at the federal level,” said Gill, who is currently the Minister of Red Tape Reduction. Previously, Gill had served as Minister of Citizenship and Multiculturalism.

“The hardworking people of Milton have given me the tremendous honour of being their representative in the Ontario Legislature.”

Gill previously served as an MP from 2011 to 2015.

“I am motivated to continue to fight for the constituents of Milton by joining Pierre Poilievre’s common sense Conservative team in their efforts to defeat Justin Trudeau’s Liberal-NDP costly coalition.”

Gill said he consulted with his wife and family before handing in his resignation to Ford.

“I want to thank Premier Ford for his confidence in me and for helping me deliver for Milton and our great province.”

Milton’s MP is currently Liberal Adam van Koeverden.
