Milton elementary school opening in September needs a name

Milton’s newest elementary school is opening in September and it needs a new name.

And this is where you come in.

Located at 815 Kennedy Circle, local students, families and community members are encouraged to submit suggestions for the name of the Halton District’s School Board’s new facility by March 12.

The Board is encouraging names that:

• recognize the geography, history, local environment, culture or traditions of the community
• consider equity, diversity and inclusion in the school community
• celebrate a renowned person of historical significance to the Halton community
• honour an individual whose contribution to society or humanity is recognized and valued across Canada

To be considered, name must be distinct from other school names in Halton, reflect a positive image of the HDSB and be expected to stand the test of time, and be secular in nature.

Each name that is submitted will be reviewed by a committee which will include student and parent/guardian representation.

A shortlist of names will be prepared and presented to the Board of Trustees who will select the final name at an upcoming Board meeting.
