Milton councillor wants additional descriptive signage on Hwy. 401

A Milton councillor is hoping to have his suggestion about Hwy. 401 heard by the provincial government.

Ward 2 Town councillor John Challinor II wants to upgrade signage on Hwy. 401 through Milton at tonight’s (Monday, Jan. 29) monthly meeting.

Challinor’s motion says the government is currently doing a study on potential improvements along the Hwy. 401 corridor, including additional capacity expansion, high-occupancy vehicle lanes and modifications to bridges, illumination, drainage and interchanges.

“Most other communities bordering Hwy. 401 across the province of Ontario feature interchange signage that indicates the name of the community and the distanceto the centre of that community, Milton does not,” reads the motion.

So, to alleviate that, Challinor is making the following suggestions he hopes will be forwarded to Prabmeet Sarkaria, Minister of Transportation:

• Signage west of the Winston Churchill Blvd. interchange and signage east of the Hwy. 6 S. interchange that indicate the next five interchanges lead into Milton
• Signage west of the Winston Churchill Blvd. interchange that indicates the distance to Milton. There is currently such signage located east of the Hwy. 6 S. interchange
• Signage at the Guelph Line interchange that indicates that turning north leads to Rockwood and turning south leads to Milton/Campbellville
• Signage at the under-construction Tremaine Rd. interchange that indicates turning north leads to Acton and turning south leads to Milton
• Signage at the Regional Road 25 interchange that indicates that turning north leads to Acton and turning south leads to Milton and Oakville
• Signage at the James Snow Pkwy. interchange that indicates that turning north leads to Acton and turning south leads to Milton and Oakville
• Signage at the Trafalgar Rd. interchange that indicates that turning north leads to Georgetown and turning south leads to Milton and Oakville.
