Man struck while inspecting vehicle damage on Burlington highway, six others injured

The Burlington highway collision that sent seven people to hospital started as a minor accident.

Ontario Provincial Police say that after striking a guardrail, the driver of an SUV got out to inspect the damage to his vehicle that ended up blocking eastbound lanes of the highway near Waterdown Road.

An oncoming car then struck the man and the SUV.

The man from the SUV was taken to hospital with what is described as life-threatening injuries. A passenger in the SUV was treated for minor injuries.

Five people in the car were also injured. Two are being treated for life-altering injuries while three others received minor injuries.

The collision happened around 1 a.m. on March 17 on the stretch of Hwy. 403 near Waterdown Raod.

Police say the collision closed a section of Hwy. 403 for several hours before reopening at 8:30 a.m.
