The province’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU) has launched an investigation following an incident in which a Halton Police officer discharged an Anti-Riot Weapon Enfield (ARWEN) at a 22-year-old man in Oakville.

The incident occurred around midnight on July 14 when officers responded to a dispute at a residence on MacDonald Rd.

Authorities say that the man barricaded himself inside the residence, leading to an interaction between the officers and the individual in question.

During the course of the interaction, one police officer discharged an ARWEN at the individual.

Following the discharge of the firearm, the 22-year-old man was transported to a hospital for assessment, and officials say that he did not sustain any serious injuries.

The SIU has designated one subject official and seven witness officials to examine all circumstances surrounding the discharge of the ARWEN.

As the investigation unfolds, investigators urge anyone with additional information to contact the lead investigator at 1-800-787-8529.
