A man has died in hospital after a multi-vehicle crash at a busy intersection in Milton on Friday night.

Halton Regional Police responded to an eight-vehicle collision around 5 p.m. near the intersection of Derry Road and Ontario Street South.

Investigators say a GMC Sierra, driven by a 35-year-old Milton man, was travelling west on Derry Road when it collided with multiple vehicles near the intersection. The truck then crossed the centre median, overturned and struck several eastbound vehicles before stopping in the eastbound lanes.

One of the eastbound vehicles, a Toyota Corolla driven by a 55-year-old man from Milton, was struck and suffered life-threatening injuries. He was taken to a trauma centre where he later died, police say. Officials have not released additional details on the victim.

It is unknown whether any occupants of the other vehicles involved in the collision sustained injuries.

The cause of the crash is still being investigated.

Police are asking witnesses or those with dashboard camera footage to contact the Collision Reconstruction Unit at 905-825-4747 ext. 5065.
