A major road in Halton Hills has been closed to traffic due to a sinkhole.

Halton Region announced via social media and their website that Eighth Line North, between 5 Side Road and Steeles Avenue, is closed to all traffic.

The road is often used by commuters in Brampton, Mississauga and Milton.

Repair crews are on site. Drivers who usually use that road should find an alternate that includes Winston Churchill Boulevard, Ninth Line or Trafalgar Road.

There is no estimate for when the road will reopen.
