Major Oakville roads will be closed for annual half-marathon Sunday

Oakville’s annual half-marathon is returning Sunday and local drivers and residents should prepare for plenty of disruptions.

The race route starts at Shell Park, turns west onto Lakeshore and explores some of the neighbourhoods to the south of Lakeshore. It does a loop through Tannery Park before heading back to Shell Park.

The half-marathon starts Sunday, Sept. 29, at 7:30 a.m. with the 10km run at 7:50 a.m. and the five-km at 8 a.m.

  • Here are the road closures drivers will have to contend with:
  • Lakeshore Road East from Great Lakes Boulevard to Bronte Road, 6:30 to 11 a.m.
  • Bronte Road from Lakeshore Road East to Ontario Street, 6:30 to 11 a.m.
  • Lakeshore Road East from Third Line to Dorval Drive, 7 to 11 a.m.
  • Old Lakeshore Road, 7 to 11 a.m.

In addition some roads will have lane closures:

  • Ontario Street (eastbound) from Bronte Road to East Street, 6:30 to 11 a.m.
  • East Street (northbound) from Marine Drive to Ontario Street, 6:30 to 11 a.m.
  • Marine Drive (eastbound) from East Street to Third Line, 7:00 to 11 a.m.

Roadways that will be designated as the primary detour route during the closure period are Third Line, Rebecca Street and Great Lakes Boulevard

There will be no race-day parking in Shell Park. Runners should park in the Bronte Go Station Lot and free shuttle service will be provided between Bronte Go Station and the race venue at Shell Park starting at 5:30 a.m. from the Go Station and last bus leaving Shell Park at 11:50 a.m. Spectators are welcome to use the shuttle as well.
