Milton economic plan 2051

Residents are getting a chance to guide Milton’s long-term growth.

The Official Plan incentive — which started in 2021 — is a staggered community-driven financial initiative that manages Milton’s economic growth for the next several decades. According to city officials, community members can engage in the upcoming draft of this project in several ways.

Online engagement will be open to all on August 22 at 11 am, and an in-person event will open at the Milton Town Hall on September 12, shedding light on the prospective changes the Official Plan may bring.

Concepts and goals included in the upcoming draft of Milton’s Official Plan include:

  • Future population management job growth.
  • Incentives to make downtown Milton a lively and distinct destination for residents and visitors.
  • Designs to make Milton’s uptown a transit-supported hub while managing pedestrian support to support enterprises and businesses in the area.
  • Protections for regional farmlands and operations.
  • Protections and enhancements of Milton’s natural environment and green space.
  • Programs for accessible and convenient transportation options.
  • Support for housing choices that meet the diverse needs of current and future residents.

Town representatives have noted that after both public forums, the final draft of the Official Plan will be set in stone, which will set the future of Milton’s socio-economic development until 2051.
