Finishing second suits Luc Martin just fine.

The Burlington resident has collected $123,556.70 by winning the second prize in the Aug. 16 draw of Lotto Max.

He did so by having six of the seven winning numbers as selected through a quick pick.

Martin, who works as a consultant, said he is only an occasional lottery player but when he does reach for that five-dollar bill he takes his chances on Lotto Max.

“I was at the store when I checked my ticket. I was so shocked by the prize amount that I just stood there staring at the screen. I was completely frozen,” Martin recalled while collecting his prize at the OLG (Ontario Lottery and Gaming) Prize Centre in Toronto.

Overcome with excitement, when he realized he was a winner he called his wife to share the great news.

“I had the biggest smile on my face as I called her. When she answered the phone, I said, ‘I just won over $100,000 with Lotto Max!’ She was just as shocked as I was,” Martin said.

With his windfall, Luc plans to upgrade his car and share some of the money with his children.

“I feel so lucky and blessed. Winning is an amazing feeling,” he said.

The winning ticket was purchased at Shopper’s Drug Mart on Upper Middle Road in Burlington.
