After months of delays, the cookies have arrived!

Craig’s Cookies, a rapidly expanding franchise of dessert shops in Ontario, opened its doors in Burlington today (Sept. 7). With it have come about 100 cookie varieties meant to please the taste buds of every biscuit connoisseur.

Originally scheduled to open in June, the launch was delayed for several months, but it was announced last night via social media that today is the day. Customer lineups have since been reported.

“Let the madness begin,” wrote a member of an online Burlington chat group when word began to spread about the opening. “People go out of their way for these cookies. It will be a busy place.”

Started by actor Craig Pike in 2013 to earn some extra cash, he used his mother’s East Coast recipes to create his first batch and turned to the emerging Instagram to spread the word about his creations.

The response was immediate and Pike soon found himself traveling around the GTA to deliver his goods. Since he opened his first store he hasn’t looked back and franchises now exist in Toronto, Collingwood and Niagara-On-The-Lake with more on the horizon.

Located at 501 Brant Street at the former location of Book Nook, customers can expect to munch on flavours both traditional and unique.

From chocolate chip, shortbread and white chocolate macadamia, you can also expect to find cookies such as apple pie, Nutella-filled and butter tart as well as several chocolate bar-inspired flavours such as Reese’s Pieces, Snickers, Twix and Toblerone.

You will also find cookies created for special occasions such as Pride events, birthdays, and holidays. Nut-free varieties are available, too.

All the creations — and there will be other dessert items available — are made on-site and baked fresh daily.

Large batches can be ordered in advance and delivery is available.

“Finally,” said another member of the Burlington chat group. “I confess that sometimes I would take the GO Train to pick up some of the cookies at the Union Station location. Now I don’t have to travel so far.”
