Lane closures until November will cause traffic disruptions for those travelling a busy route through Burlington and Oakville.

Burloak Drive at Prince William Drive/Superior Court will see intermittent lane closures as part of the lengthy overhaul of the stretch of road south of the QEW/Hwy. 403.

During this phase of the reconstruction period, drivers won’t be able to turn left on Superior Court when going southbound on Burloak Drive. Also, you won’t be able to drive straight through the intersection from Superior Court to Prince William Drive.

You will still be able to turn right onto Superior Court if you are travelling northbound on Burloak Drive.

Businesses in the adjacent plaza will remain open during this period but through different access points. Signs will be posted directing traffic to the routes to get into the plaza.

The work is part of a lengthy project that will ultimately see a revamped Burloak south of the QEW/Hwy. 403.

To be carried out by Metrolinx, the Ontario agency responsible for integrating transit systems in Southern Ontario, the remaking of Burloak is intended to improve the traffic flow for Burlington and Oakville drivers once it’s finished. The plan is to remove the ground-level train crossing and create an underpass for vehicles while trains pass overhead via a new bridge.

The project will also allow the expansion of Burloak to six lanes and create improvements to nearby routes such as Wyecroft Road, Harvester Road, Superior Court and Prince William Drive. The addition of turn lanes, sidewalks, bike lanes and improved connectivity for active modes of travel will also be included in this project.

Upgrades to the pedestrian bridge on Drury Lane are also planned.

Metrolinx says the project will also provide the opportunity to electrify the GO train lines, allowing for more frequent train service.

Metrolinx says reasonable precautions are being taken during the construction period to minimize disturbances to residents and businesses.

Starting next year, Burloak Drive will be closed for 14 months to complete the major components of the project.
