The Town of Milton is about to jump onto the map as a major education hub in the province.
Beginning in 2024, three new post-secondary campuses will be accepting students for the first time.
The aptly named Milton Education Village (MEV) is anticipated to be a dynamic urban district with a focus on innovation in a natural environment.
“This vision will be realized by the integration of leading academic institutions, integrated long-term care facility, outdoor recreational opportunities, views of the Niagara Escarpment, state-of-the-art research and design facilities and an environmentally-conscious urban design,” said a Town spokesperson.
The full vision of the plan won’t be complete for close to 30 years, but when it’s finished, the neighbourhood will be home to about 13,000 people with 2,500 jobs. There will be a post-secondary campus with 15,000 students and 2,300 jobs.
The next steps towards the goal are here, as three new campuses are opening for students next fall.
Wilfrid Laurier University will open the Laurier Milton Academic Centre in 2024. Over time, Laurier Milton is expected to develop into a robust, purpose-built campus in the MEV.
Two of Laurier’s most popular and established programs, computer science and psychology, are the first to accept students at the Milton campus. Available degrees are BA or BSc in computer science and BA in psychology.
Conestoga College is launching a pair of campuses next fall. The Milton-Parkhill campus will deliver post-secondary programming in areas such as community services, supply chain management, project management, mobile solutions, business analysis, quality assurance, and applied manufacturing management.
The Milton Steeles Avenue location will include the Conestoga Centre of Excellence in Healthcare Education. Programs offered include enhanced practice for internationally-educated nurses; personal support workers; nursing leadership and healthcare management; health and social systems navigation; and regulatory affairs.
