Large subdivision with three residential towers, stores and possible daycare proposed for Oakville

The Town of Oakville is inviting residents to weigh in on a proposed development that, if approved, will bring three residential towers, retailers and a possible daycare to the municipality. 

A public meeting will be held on Sept. 11 at town hall (1225 Trafalgar Rd.) to discuss a proposed development at 590 Argus Rd., a land parcel close to the QEW. The mixed-use development, spearheaded by 590 Argus Development Inc., will include three towers that are 44, 50 and 58 storeys in height. The towers will boast 1,750 residential units.

The developer has asked the town to make amendments to its official plan and zoning rules to accommodate the community. 

The site is located in Midtown, north of Argus Road and south of South Service Road East. The site is currently home to a six-storey Holiday Inn. 

According to an urban design brief submitted by Bousfields Inc. on behalf of the developer, the towers will sit atop a 6- to 12-storey podium and the community will include 1,745 square metres of retail space and 650 square metres of amenity space on the ground floor. 

The brief says the development is well-suited for the area, which it calls “underutilized.”

“The proposed development has been carefully organized, sited and massed in a manner that will improve a substantial block of underutilized lands and increase the permeability of the subject site through the introduction of a new public road and an enhanced public realm and pedestrian environment,” the brief reads.

“The proposed building heights and massing forms will fit within the planned built-form context within Midtown Oakville.” 

The brief says the mixed-use community will “contribute to the transformation of Midtown Oakville,” which is slated to grow into a higher-density community with its own road network and easy access to transit. 

In a news release posted to its website, the town said there are currently no other development applications for this parcel of land.
