Labour Day in Burlington, Oakville, and Milton falls on Monday, September 2, 2024.
Initially, the day gave workers the chance to campaign for better working conditions and pay, but now it’s part of a long weekend where many people choose to relax and get ready for the reopening of schools.
Here’s what’s open and closed this Labour Day in Oakville, Burlington, Milton and Halton Hills.
Open:
- Local parks and certain outdoor recreational amenities
- Most Shoppers Drug Marts, but call ahead to be sure
- Most restaurants will be open for dining, takeout and delivery, but make sure to call ahead
- Some smaller grocery stores, such as Rabba grocery stores
- Three Beer Stores in the region: 290 Hays Blvd., Oakville; 1071 Maple Ave., Milton; 236 Guelph St., Halton Hills; all from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
- Wine Rack stores across the Region
- Burlington’s nine splash pads and outdoor pools
- Conservation Halton Parks: Crawford Lake, Hilton Falls, Kelso, Mount Nemo, Mountsberg, Rattlesnake Point
- Terra Cotta Conservation Area in Halton Hills
- Lions outdoor pool in Oakville
- Some Starbucks (hours may vary at different locations)
- Toronto Premium Outlets (9:30 a.m. – 7:00 p.m.)
- Other major malls that are open:
– Square One (11 a.m. – 6 p.m.)
– Bramalea City Centre (11 a.m. – 6 p.m.)
– Vaughan Mills (11 a.m. – 7 p.m.)

- Most Halton Region offices and services, although all 24-hour/essential services remain open
- Most community centres, seniors’ centres, pools, arenas and libraries
- Oakville Centre for the Performing Arts
- Mattamy National Cycling Centre
- All indoor pools in Burlington
- Milton Mall
- Burlington Centre
- Mapleview Mall
- Oakville Pace
Transit:
- Oakville Transit will be offering its holiday service schedule
- Burlington Transit will operate on a Sunday schedule
- Milton Transit will not operate on Labour Day
- GO Transit will run on a Saturday schedule
Garbage:
No garbage pick up Monday, Sept. 2 (all waste collection will be one day later than usual)
