With heavy rain expected in the area on Tuesday (Sept. 24), the City of Burlington is reminding citizens to prepare for the possibility of ponding or flooding.

There is a 40 percent chance of shower or drizzles with a possible accumulation of 20 to 30 mm throughout the day along with the risk of a thunderstorm, says Environment Canada.

Low-lying areas, waterways and streets may experience some “minor ponding” that could result from flowing water being held back or damming up.

“Keep catch basins in front of your home clear of debris such as leaves or garbage,” said the City on social media platform X (formerly Twitter). “Inspect and clean your eavestroughs and downspouts to ensure they aren’t blocked with leaves or debris.”

Residents with significant ponding or flooded areas can report them to Service Burlington by calling 905-335-7777 or emailing [email protected].
