Two separate incidents have led to ongoing internet and TV disruptions in some areas of Burlington.

The service loss is for those who are Bell customers. It is not known how many are affected.

Some reports indicate it may take several days to fix the problem with service loss extending throughout the long weekend.

According to Bell, the most recent outage and the one the day before occurred because of problems in the same area.

The first outage, on Wednesday (July 31) happened when a construction team unrelated to Bell cut a cable.

It took several hours for that damage to be repaired but then a short time later a fire broke out in the same area which has led to the recent loss of service.

“Last night (Aug. 1), a fire damaged cables exactly where our teams had just completed repairs after a cable cut made by a third-party construction company, unrelated to Bell,” the company explained to customers this morning. “We don’t know the cause of the fire yet, but our teams are working to restore the services as quickly as possible. We apologize for the additional inconvenience this situation may be causing.”

Many have taken to social media channels to vent their frustration.

“First the flood knocked us out, then the cut cable, now the fire. We keep losing our service. The last two days we have been down,” said one member of a Burlington Facebook group. “I just got an email from them (Bell) saying we could be without until Aug 5!”

Others say the disruption is affecting their jobs.

“I work from home, what am I supposed to do?” said another resident.
