A fire that broke out just before midnight could be seen for miles, Burlington residents report.
The fire was contained to a house under construction on Emerald St. in the downtown area.
There were no injuries.
According to reports, the fire broke out just before midnight (Feb. 5) and when firefighters arrived on the scene large flames could be seen shooting out of the structure.
While the fire was contained to one house, firefighters say the situation posed problems for the emergency crews because of the potential for it to spread. Fortunately, firefighters were able to stop the flames from spreading and eventually brought it under control.
Those on social media said the flames could be seen across the city against the night sky making the fire look larger than it was.
“Wow. when I looked out my window I thought the entire neighbourhood was going up in flames,” one apartment dwelling posted on Facebook chat group. “What a relief to hear that no one was injured.”
Initial estimates say $500,000 worth of damage was done to the construction site.
Firefighters remain on the scene and the Fire Marshal’s office has been notified.
