An Oakville high school showed why it’s better to give than to receive.
King’s Christian Collegiate held a Community Food Drive to collect food items for local Oakville Food Banks and the result was certainly impressive.
Over 550 volunteers from the private school, located at 528 Burnhamthorpe Rd., along with Purolator, the Kerr Street Mission and 10 different local churches helped collect 2,355 bags of food, adding up to 24,571 pounds of food.
“Thanks to everyone who participated in some way in our Community Food Drive last week,” the Oakville school said in a newsletter. Oakville food banks received a wonderful harvest from the homes of Oakville.
Volunteers from the school help deliver 2,500 bags of food to homes this past week.

“Food banks resources are being used at a high rate these days as many people are visiting food banks to provide for their families as costs increase,” the school said in promoting the food drive. “Together with a number of churches we are collecting food to stock the shelves of our local food banks.”
King’s Christian Collegiate was founded in 2001 by a group of parents who envisioned a local Christian education.
The private school had 64 students when it first opened its doors and has grown to over 700 students today.
