Heavy rainfall warning in effect for Halton

Conservation Halton has issued a forecast warning for a low-pressure system bringing a significant accumulation of rainfall.

The rain will begin today and last into early Friday morning.

Approximately 30 to 50 mm are expected in the immediate area and the heaviest amounts will occur Thursday afternoon.

This precipitation will result in increased water levels within rivers and streams over the next few days.

This will also result in hazardous conditions close to any stream, river or water body, due to the combination of slippery banks and cool water temperatures.

There is no anticipation of widespread flooding, but fast-flowing water and flooding of lower areas may be expected in natural floodplains. Localized flooding may also occur in storm sewers due to leaf litter blocks.

Municipalities, emergency services and individual landowners in areas that are flood-prone should be on alert.

Conservation Halton is advising all residents and children to keep a safe distance from all bodies of water as well as structures including bridges, culverts and dams.

This weather warning will be in effect through Saturday, November 2nd, 2019.
