This weekend could be a rainy one in Halton, according to Environment Canada.

Today, the weather agency announced that a special weather statement is in effect for Halton (Oakville, Burlington, Milton and Halton Hills), Peel (Brampton, Mississauga and Caledon) and Hamilton.

The weather agency says a low-pressure system will approach Southern Ontario late Saturday, with rain developing over the area Saturday evening. Rain, heavy at times, will continue through Saturday night into Sunday morning.

Total rainfall amounts of 30 to 50 mm are possible, with the heaviest rain falling overnight Saturday. Gusty easterly winds up to 60 km/h are possible. Rain will taper to scattered showers Sunday evening.

In Hamilton, frost is expected because temperatures in the area are expected to drop to the freezing mark or below tonight (Oct. 25).

Hamilton residents are advised to take preventative measures to protect frost-sensitive plants and trees.

Residents in Halton, Peel and Hamilton are asked to ensure that storm drains are clear of leaves and other debris. Heavy downpours can cause flash floods as well as water pooling on roads.

Local power outages are possible.
