Heat warning issued for Burlington, Oakville, Milton starting Tuesday

A heat warning has been issued for Burlington, Oakville, Milton and Halton Hills beginning tomorrow.

Environment Canada is predicted daytime temperatures in the high 20s to low 30s with an overnight low in the low 20s.

In addition to the heat, the humidex is expected to make it feel like it’s high 30s, perhaps even low 40s before it breaks.

“A two or three day hot and humid event for most areas are expected to begin on Tuesday. Areas near the lakes could be slightly cooler than regions further inland,” said the warning issued by Environment Canada on Monday afternoon.

“These hot and humid conditions will begin to end from west to east Wednesday night. Hot and humid air can also bring deteriorating air quality and can result in the Air Quality Health Index approaching the high risk category.”

The report says extreme heat affects everyone. People are advised to drink plenty of water even before you feel thirsty and stay in a cool place.

Heat warnings are issued when very high temperature or humidity conditions are expected to pose an elevated risk of heat illnesses, such as heat stroke or heat exhaustion.
