The first day of junior kindergarten can be a daunting experience for both the children – those with late birthdays can be as young as three – and for the parents, who know their babies are about to embark on a life-changing journey.
The Halton District School Board is trying to make that transition as smooth as possible with a series of open houses for future students and their families to help make that first school experience a positive one.
Open Houses have been already held in Halton Hills (October 17 at Robert Little Public School in Acton and October 24 in Georgetown at Ethel Gardiner Public School) and in Milton (November 7 at Irma Coulson Public School) and Burlington (November 14 at Alexander’s Public School) and the Board will be hosting an Open House Wednesday, November 29 in Oakville at Joshua Creek Public School at 1450 Arrowhead Road between 6:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.
Kindergarten students are encouraged to play, explore and “enhance their potential passions and strengths” in a safe and caring play-based environment at the events that promotes the physical, social, emotional and cognitive development of all children.
There are also Virtual Kindergarten Information Session for newcomer families with sessions offered in different languages by Youth Settlement Specialists.
The sessions, which require parents to Register, will better inform parents about the kindergarten program, preparing for school routines, available settlement support and any other questions they may have.
The virtual program will close February 2.
Kindergarten registration begins in January.
