Human trafficking ring busted by Halton cops; Brampton, Mississauga residents among five arrested

Five people have been arrested following a human trafficking investigation that started in Halton.

Halton Regional Police began an investigation into a human trafficking ring they believe was operating in Halton and across the Greater Toronto Area in May.

Police allege that between September 2019 and this September, a group of people used coercion, deception, manipulation, physical violence and psychological harm to maintain control, direction or influence over the victims. During the course of the investigation, five suspects were identified.

On Tuesday, the Halton police Human Trafficking Unit executed five search warrants at various homes in Brampton and Toronto.

Items seized include:

  • loaded firearm, ammunition and a prohibited magazine
  • large sum of cash
  • vehicle seized as offence-related property
  • victim identity documents

Prince Munroe (alias Casino Barnes), 35, of Brampton, Sabrina Leite-Moniz (alias Lady SB), 25, of Brampton, and Jamie Munroe, 33, of Mississauga, all face multiple charges, including trafficking in persons, receive material benefit from trafficking persons, procuring – exercise control, knowingly advertise sexual services, assault and various firearms-related offences.

Jonathan Bennett, 25, of Shelburne, and Shuwyane Mitchell, 30, of Courtice, are both charged with procuring – exercise control.

Also participating in the investigation were police from Peel, Toronto, Niagara and Peterborough services.
