It’s the gift that keeps on helping you grow plants in your gardens and flower beds.
Residents of Oakville, Burlington, Milton, and Halton Hills are invited to get their shovels and bags out and head to the Halton Waste Management Site for Halton Region’s annual Fall Compost Giveaway on Saturday (Sept. 23).
Every year collected yard waste and leaves are processed into nutrient-rich, natural compost that is made available free to the public. Each household can take home up to the equivalent of seven bags of compost.
The complimentary compost giveaway begins at 8 a.m. and runs through to 4:30 p.m. at the Halton Waste Management Site located at 5400 Regional Rd. 25 in Milton.
Residents should bring their own shovels as they are responsible for shovelling their own compost.
You are also asked to bring your own containers or bags, yard waster bags, garbage bags or reusable containers and a pick-up bed or trailer to haul the compost home.
Staff at the waste site will be accepting non-perishable food donations for Halton Region food banks. Cash donations are not being accepted currently.
