Get the family into the Halloween spirit at Oakville Museum

From crafting their own cat mask, to a pumpkin parade, Oakville families will have plenty of ways to get into the Halloween Spirit this year.

The Oakville Museum is hosting a few “spooktacular” family-friendly Halloween events this month, beginning Saturday, Oct. 28 to Wednesday, Nov. 1.

“Oakville is getting into the Halloween spirit, and I hope residents will join the town for family-friendly activities at Oakville Museum this month,” said Mayor Rob Burton. “Council and I always look forward to seeing the community come together to connect with each other and have fun.”

Things get spooky beginning with the Halloween Craft and Tour on Oct. 28.

It’s the “purr-fect” way to get into the Halloween spirit at your fingertips. Children, ages four to nine, and their family can craft their very own paper cat mask and explore all the “purr anormal cativity” at the Oakville Museum.

Find out why cats were so special to the Chisholm family who lived at Erchless Estate. The museum will host two sessions from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. and 2:30 to 3:30 p.m.

Then keep the spooky good times going with the Oakville Pumpkin Parade on Wednesday, Nov. 1.

Residents can give their jack-o’-lantern another day to shine by taking part in the parade, hosted in partnership with the Oakville Public Library and Oakville Historical Society.

Just bring your creative pumpkin carvings to Oakville Museum’s Erchless Estate and settle in for some crafting, storytime, and treats while staff light the pumpkins and line the paths near the Coach House.

Jack-o’-lantern drop-off is between 4 and 5:30 p.m., followed by a craft activity, stories, treats, and the parade. Halloween costumes are encouraged for a “fa-boo-lous” time.

Following the event, pumpkins will be given to local farms to help feed their animals.

In the event of inclement weather, such as rain and thunderstorms, the Oakville Pumpkin Parade may be delayed or cancelled. Residents are encouraged to follow the Town of Oakville on its social media sites.

Looking for a healthier option to reward trick-or-treaters this year?

The Town of Oakville suggests you can hand out active swim, skate, or sport passes to the kids at your door this Halloween. You can buy 10 of the passes for $5 and they are available for purchase at the Oakville Museum (Tuesdays to Sundays between 1 and 4:30 p.m.) and community centres throughout October.

The passes can be used by children ages 2 to 14 years old. Passes are valid from Nov. 1 to Dec. 31, 2023, and can only be redeemed in-person. Visit the Drop-In Programs page to learn more.

Parking at the Oakville Museum is limited, so residents are asked to plan ahead by using the town’s map with real-time parking information to find available parking in the area.
