Get help with clearing windrows from your Milton driveway
Published October 1, 2024 at 11:50 am
For some Milton residents, the pile of snow left at the end of your driveway after the plow clears your street can be an overwhelming obstacle.
Called windrows, the Town of Milton has a program that will take care of them for residents who are either age 65 or over or have disabilities.
Running from Dec. 1 to March 31, the service begins every time a snowfall exceeds 10-cm (four inches) and after plowing has been completed on all roads.
Smaller plow units are then dispatched to each approved registrants’ address, where the windrow formed at the bottom of the driveway is plowed off to the side.
Depending on the number of program registrants, it will be at least 36 hours after all the roads have been plowed before the windrow removal service is completed.
The program does not include removing snow windrows created by sidewalk plows or plowing of driveways.
To apply in person, visit the Milton Leisure Centre, 1100 Main St. on Friday, Oct. 25, between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Make sure you bring identification, with proof of address and age, and a doctor’s note, for persons with disabilities.
The cost of the program is $66 but there are fee exemptions for low-income households that qualify.
Online registration begins Monday, Oct. 21, at 9 .m. Program spots are limited. To register online, visit here.
