A Georgetown woman has been hired as the first female coach for the Toronto Blue Jays.

The baseball team recently hired Georgetown native, Jaime Vieira, as a minor-league hitting coach, making her the first woman to be in a coaching role for the organization.

Vieira, who is a University of Guelph-Humber graduate, has always been passionate about baseball, according to the university’s website. She was a former softball player and coach for the Humber Hawks.

Up until recently, she also worked as a research and development intern for the Blue Jays’ baseball operations department.

The club officially hired her on Monday, Jan. 17, ahead of the 2022 season.
