Future plans for two Burlington nature sanctuaries under review

Conservation Halton needs input to help manage the future use of two naturalized areas of Burlington.

Located within the Cootes to Escarpment EcoPark System, the Clappison Woods and Waterdown Woods properties make up approximately 508 acres of open space along the Niagara Escarpment.

In 2016, management plans for the properties were developed to provide recommendations on conserving the natural and cultural features and improving sustainable recreation activities, education, and research opportunities on these public lands. During this process, the public and relevant agencies were consulted.

Conservation Halton is now beginning the process of implementing these plans for Clappison Woods and Waterdown Woods.

The purpose of this study will be to update and combine the existing management plans for both properties into a single plan that will “outline the values, constraints and management priorities in relation to each conservation area’s spaces and functions within in the Niagara Escarpment Parks and Open Space System (NEPOSS).”

To assist with the study, Conservation Halton wants to hear from local residents and visitors about the future use of these two areas.
