French Immersion registration opens next week for Catholic kindergarten students in Burlington, Oakville, Milton and Halton Hills. The public board registration is ongoing.

On Monday, Jan. 15, Halton Catholic District School Board’s (HCDSB) Year 2 kindergarten students can sign up online for the Grade 1 French Immersion program for the 2024-2025 school year.

“The French Immersion program is an exciting, fast-paced, optional French program. Students must be entering Grade 1 in September, in order to be eligible to participate in the Board’s French Immersion program,” said an HCDSB spokesperson.

The optional French Immersion program has expanded across Catholic schools in the region, so space in the program is no longer determined through a random selection process.

The program is offered regionally, and school sites may change from time to time based on student enrolment and other considerations. To see where the program is beginning run next year, visit here.

Parents and guardians can register for the program through an online registration portal, which will be available from Jan. 15 to Feb. 29.

Registration for the public school board, which starts with Grade 2 students, started in December and remains open until Jan. 31.

“In the Halton District School Board, the only entry point for the French Immersion program is Grade 2, with 100 pre cent instruction in French language. In Grade 3, it is an 80/20 model and all remaining grades in elementary school are 50/50,” said an HDSB spokesperson.
