Former Milton councillor will run as Conservative for vacant Milton seat

A former Milton councillor has confirmed he’s entering the fight for the open MPP seat in Milton.

Zeeshan Hamid will be running under the banner of the Conservative Party in battle to replace former MPP Parm Gill, who stepped down in order to run at the federal level.

In addition to 12 years at a Milton councillor, Hamid ran for mayor during the last municipal election, narrowly losing to Gord Krantz, the longest serving mayor in Canadian history.

“Milton is my home. For more than a decade, I served Milton on local and regional councils by putting families first and listening to our community,” said Hamid.

“Milton deserves strong local representation at Queen’s Park from someone who knows and understands their concerns, which is why I’m running to build Hwy. 413 and fight the Liberal carbon tax on groceries and home heating.”

Hamid has served as a director of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Halton and Hamilton, and on the boards of Halton Healthcare, Halton Community Housing Corporation and Conservation Halton. He currently serves on the board of Community Development of Halton North.

“Zee Hamid is a champion for Milton who will help us get it done by building Hwy. 413 and extending two-way, all-day GO train service along the Milton line,” said Ontario Premier Doug Ford.

An experienced professional in the tech sector, Hamid said he is passionate about expanding access to high quality education, connecting the next generation with skilled jobs and creating jobs for the local economy. He lives in Milton with his wife and their family of six children.

No other candidates for the riding’s byelection have come forward, although it has been hotly rumoured that new Liberal leader Bonnie Crombie, the former mayor of Mississauga, may run in order to sit in the legislature.
