Forgotten ticket eventually brings big prize to Burlington lottery player

Rorie Barrett of Burlington had forgotten that he filled out a ticket for the July 19 draw of Ontario 49.
The 54-year-old, who works in the manufacturing industry, said he had bought the ticket and put it away and mostly forgot about it.
When he did remember, Barrett checked the ticket on the OLG App and discovered that he won.
“It didn’t really click at first,” he recounted. “I thought there were only three zeroes! When I found out I won $50,000, I was so excited!”
A long time player having bought tickets since 1988 to Lottario, Lotto Max, and Ontario 49, Barrett said he has been largely striking out, failing to pull in a prize of any significance.
“I kept playing my own numbers and nothing happened,” he explained at the OLG office. But this time it was different coming away with the second prize on Ontario 49.
He shared the news with his close friends. “They believed me right away and were excited for me,” he said.
With his winnings, Rorie will manage his finances and plan for his future.
“I’m very happy with this win,” he said. “It’s going to make things much easier.”
The winning ticket was purchased at Circle K on Queen Street in Brampton.
